Well, it depends on what was done during the surgery. If the meniscus was repaired, and the repair was successful, than your knee should be fine.
The problem with getting the meniscus removed, is that years of having bone rubbing on bone, will cause osteoarthritis. It might take 20 years, but will eventually happen.
My husband had his meniscus removed years ago, and is needing a total knee replacement.
That's why if repair is an option, it should be done.

I have osteoarthritis in my hands, wrists and one knee. Now my elbow is hurting and I really don't want to go to the Dr.'s again. How do you tell the difference? Thanks for the help.
tendonitis is inflammation of the tendon and osteoarthritis is breakdown of the cartilidge in the joint
for the past 6 months that i can remeber my right knee has been swollen and i've been unable to do stranious activity and here recently it's been hurting worse and becoming stiffer. the pain stays around the right side of my knee cap and the back where i believe the tendons are....i'm not sure what i did to cause this and im not sure if how long it has actually been...i've tryed aspercream and other pain relievers for joints and have also bought a knee brace hoping to cause less strain...i've even used ice packs to keep the swelling down but they dont work long...im 17 yrs old and i dont have insurance and recently moved out of my parents home. I've been tryin to drop weight hopin to help relieve some of the pain...i realize that i'm about 20 lbs over weight for my height but for my build i'm only 10...i'm not sure what else to say but...i need help. Please?
You may have the same problem I have. I have a disease known as Osgood-Schlatters Disease. I have the exact same problem. I have been to the doctor about it. It is something you can inherit from somewhere in your family. It cannot be healed. You just learn to live with it. It gets better over time. My mother is 37 and still has it from when she was 14. She says as you get older the less painful it becomes.
Osgood Schlatters disease is a very common cause of knee pain in everyone. It is a condition where the bony protrusion below the knee (called the tibial tuberosity or tubercle) becomes inflamed, painful and swollen.
I hope this helped! Get well Soon.

I have been suffering from painful gout in my knee that has migrated down to my ankle for about a month now. I've tried strawberries, and I am currently drinking cherry juice in hopes of getting rid of this. I'd rather not deal with the side effects of prescription remedies that have been suggested to me. I am a 51-year old male and I currently weigh more than the recommended weight for my height.
Hi, 38yr old male battling gout for 13yrs, doc says hereditary mainly. Two BLT's in a day and I'm on the sickening med's the next day...colchricine. You name the med I've been on it. Once the crystal's settle in aparticular area, the damage is done. NSAIDS are your best bet for pain, my attacks are usually severe enough for injections of Torodol & Decadron at the doc's office. As far as natural remediess, I've found dark cherry extract {capsules only} works. Juice has too many unwanted calories and sugars. Allopurinol should be taken daily, perscribed by doctor. I'm up to 900mg a day to maintain a 5-6 uric acid count. Be warned continous gout attacks can cause lumps of tissue forming on your elbows, knees , ankles, and anywhere else it decides to go. I don't know how serious your attacks are, but I don't know of anyone who has it as bad as I do. My worse case scenario, I had to have my left knee operated on to remove a painful bursitis on the kneecap. 13 staples north to south. If I can be of any assistance let me know. Jeffrey
